Man pleads guilty in threats against DA in ‘Lil Boosie’ case
A 22-year-old Baker man pleaded guilty Monday to making threats against East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III and others during the murder trial of rapper Torence “Lil Boosie” Hatch last year.
State District Judge Richard Anderson, who ordered a presentence investigation, said he will sentence Dedrick Deandre Green on June 21.
Green, who pleaded guilty as charged to public intimidation, faces up to five years in prison.
“He admitted to it because he did it — a stupid thing. We believe Dedrick is eligible to have this cleaned off his record, which we will seek to do,” Chris Alexander, who represents Green, said after court. “He’s learned a valuable lesson. We will be putting forward for the court information to show that.”
An affidavit of probable cause says Green posted the following message on the social network site Twitter on May 5: “I got a sniper rifle for Hillar Moore when he walk out the courthouse.” Green also wrote on May 5 that Hatch should be freed before Green shoots the “court house up,” deputies said.
Both posts were written under the username “Dixie Goon225,” which detectives said they determined to be Green through an investigation and by comparing Green’s profile photo to his driver’s license.
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested Green on May 7 after finding him in state District Judge Mike Erwin’s courtroom watching Hatch’s first-degree murder trial, which was being conducted under heavy security even before the threats were made.
Green said he had posted the messages but was just “fooling around,” the affidavit states.
Hatch, of Baton Rouge, was acquitted May 11.
“This was a heightened situation, and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office did an excellent job investigating this matter,” Assistant State Attorney General Kurt Wall said Monday outside Anderson’s courtroom.
The Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case because Moore’s office recused itself.
Wall told Anderson that the state agreed to dismiss a charge of principal to possession with intent to distribute marijuana that was pending against Green.
Moore chose not to comment Monday on Green’s plea. At the time of Green’s arrest, the district attorney said the tweets were upsetting and caused concern.
